Prince is reportedly considering taking legal action against three fan websites for copyright infringement. The sites in question allegedly use photos and trademarks which are Prince’s copywright. Jesus Christ, so a fan of yours used that gay looking half-male half-female symbol which you’ve been waving around praying somebody would be interested in for the past twenty years. For someone who hasn’t had a top ten hit since the 90’s, you might want to be grateful that you still have people willing to devote websites to you, Cranky.
those fan sites joined together as “Prince Fans United” and called the alleged legal action against them a violation of freedom of speech. However, a company helping Prince in his copyright issues told Reuters the Purple One is not suing his fans. “This is not about freedom of speech,” said John Giacobbi, managing director of Internet policing specialist Web Sheriff. “The current issue is one between Prince’s record label and three unofficial Web sites and relates to the use of Prince trademarks and photographs, many of which are Prince’s copyright.”
Prince has taken inspiration from being a bitch, and recorded a track called “PFunk”, which blasts the people he thinks are infringing on his ass. Here’s a sample of the lyrics:
“The only reason you say my name is to get your fifteen seconds of fame, nobody’s even sure what you do, Prince sings. “I don’t care what people may say, I ain’t gonna let it ruin my day. I love all y’all, don’t you ever mess with me no more.”
You can hear the track here. When your relevancy is in question, why would you start attacking the people who still care about what you’re doing just because they used a photo of you in panties and rocking a jheri curl from 1982? And for god’s sakes, get off the Internet and record something good like you used to right up until the time of “Lovesexy”. I don’t count the “Batman” soundtrack as good. There’s a few things on “Diamonds and Pearls” that I can stand but I mostly bought it because of that hot hologram on the front!

I completely agree, but this is The Artist Formally Known as The Artist Formally Known As Prince we’re talking about here. The guy has never been great at selling tactics. After a lot of success he suddenly changed the name on his records to The Artist. What was he thinking? So getting mad about some actual attention, which seems to be just a cry for more attention… it doesn’t really surprise me.
