Britney admits her father saved her life

Thursday 4 September 2008 @ 6:59 am

Now that she’s put her dark days behind her, Britney Spears feels better than she has in years and she says she owes it all to one person: her dad.

In an interview with the Daily Star, the singer praised her conservator-father Jamie for his efforts and self-sacrifice.

“My father saved my life,” Britney explained. “I probably wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for him.”

The pop star confessed she hasn’t always been the perfect daughter, but said her dad “basically gave up his job and his life to look after me at a time when I wasn’t even sure I wanted to go on living.”

Though she initially resisted Jamie’s court-ordered control, Britney admits it’s the very thing that saved her.

“I owe him my life,” she told the paper.

BRITNEY SPEARS WILL KICK OFF THE 2008 VMAS! FOR REAL Y’ALL

Wednesday 3 September 2008 @ 7:03 pm

Britney’s back — for REALS — and honestly, we’re probably as amazed and eagerly anxious as you are. Except for those of you hardcore Britney fans who aren’t shocked at all; both Britney’s personal life and career have been on an upswing, and her just-announced appearance at this Sunday’s VMAs may be just the beginning of her total transformation after a chaotic, drama-filled year. Here’s a look back at Britney’s top all-time top VMA moments, from the is-she-naked body suit, to the slithering “Slave 4 U” snake, to the Madonna kiss seen ‘round the world.

2008 MTV VMAs: Britney adds to her 16 nominations, (no wins… yet) with three additional nominations (Video of the Year, Best Pop Video, and Best Female Video), shows the world she’s on the mend when she appears with Russell Brand and a massive elephant in promo spots for the 2008 VMAs -– looking more radiant than ever.

We know she’ll be opening the show, but what will the big moment hold? We don’t know, but if Britney’s involved, it’s gonna mean we’re gonna be talking about it. And talking about it. Will Britney’s next VMA appearance be a serious one? Or will it employ some of the syrupy Southern sweetness that originally endeared her to America? Will other celebrities join her on the stage and show their support, or will she make her mark solo?

Watch the 2008 VMAs on Sunday, September 7 at 9pm sharp to see what Britney’s got planned for her next VMA mega-moment.

VMA Staff Prepping for Britney Spears to ‘Gimme More’

Tuesday 2 September 2008 @ 6:32 am

Despite denials from manager Larry Rudolph that Britney Spears will be “performing” at the Video Music Awards this weekend, whispers are that she is still making an appearance as a presenter in the highly anticipated awards show.

We’re told that everyone from the production crew to wardrobe are preparing for the pop princess to make a comeback, although nobody from MTV would officially confirm.

What’s interesting is that an inside source said Britney has her own dressing room. Either the gal is getting super-special treatment or she will do a little more than simply hand out an award.

The pop princess has also RSVP’d for 944 Magazine’s MTV VMA pre-party to be held at Hollywood hotspot Kress on Wednesday. So if Miss Spears does show that will mark her first officially scheduled party appearance since she launched Las Vegas club LAX exactly one year ago.

Tarts has also been told that Christina Aguilera will be showing off her four-octave range at the VMAs and there is the possibility of a performance by the Queen of Pop, Madonna. So will this year’s MTV showdown be deja vu? In 2003, Aguilera, Spears and Madonna made headlines with a three-way routine that included a steamy girl-on-girl kiss.

Insiders also told Tarts that joining Aguilera in the performance lineup are Pink, Kid Rock, Kayne West, Rihanna, the Jonas Brothers, T.I. and Paramour.

It’s Official! Britney Won’t Perform at MTV VMAs

Monday 25 August 2008 @ 7:11 pm

So much for that comeback.

“Britney Spears will not be performing at the VMAs this year. I’m telling you officially and unequivocally,” Ryan Seacrest quoted her manager, Larry Rudolph, as saying on his KIIS-FM radio show Monday morning.

Rudolph told Seacrest that Spears “is in the middle of recording her next album, which is going amazingly well, and was never supposed to perform at that show.”

The possibility of Spears performing had been rumored for weeks. (Her hair stylist Kim Vo even told E! News that he was creating three VMA looks for the singer, hinting that one of the ‘dos was for her performance.)

The singer is still involved in the show in some capacity, however.

She is appearing alongside host Russell Brand in cheeky TV spots promoting the September 7 show.

She is also up for three VMAs — including “Video of the Year” — for her song “Piece of Me.”

Spears has never won a “Moonman,” despite being nominated 17 times.

Last year, she raised eyebrows after her rocky opening performance of “Gimme More.” The New York Times called her “awful,” writing that she “tottered around the stage, dancing tentatively and doing nothing that sounded or looked like real live singing.”

Watch Britney Spears’ Video Cameo on Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet Tour

Sunday 24 August 2008 @ 11:19 am

A clip of Britney Spears’ video segment from Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet tour has hit the web.

In the segment (which played while Madonna sang “Human Nature”), Spears is trapped in an elevator and whispers the lines “express yourself, don’t repress yourself.”

The video ends with her saying, “It’s Britney, b—-.”

Spears and Madonna famously locked lips at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards.

Madonna kicked off her tour Saturday night at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium in Wales, opening with “Candy Shop.”

In addition to Spears, the 40,000-member audience also enjoyed onscreen appearances by Kanye West and , who dueted on “4 Minutes.”

More Rumblings of a Britney VMA Performance

Friday 22 August 2008 @ 6:36 am

First it was the VMA promos (did anyone else who watched them feel slightly uncomfortable for Britney?), then it was rumors of a VMA performance in a British tabloid, and now it’s a chatty hairdresser—all giving us hope that the Britney Spears we know and love is indeed coming back.

Lucky for us, that chatty hairdresser is our very own Kim Vo, the Daily 10’s resident hair guru, who told E! News exclusively that he just may be creating three VMA looks for the “E-mail My Heart” singer.

What could Britney possibly need three different hairstyles for?

The first look would obviously be for the red carpet. Vo says he and Brit are still “feeling out” ideas about how that will look.
The second style would be for the show itself, probably something “more chic, like a side ponytail.”

And look No. 3 would be for her PERFORMANCE! That’s right, we said performance. For such an event, Vo and Brit want something “more quintessential Britney.” “Performance” and “quintessential Britney” said together could only mean our girl is definitely coming back to us.
Before running off to his other hair guru gig, Sheer Genius, Vo also offered some valuable advice on how to achieve Britney’s current look. It’s called S-curl, in which he adds “more golden highlights and less platinum” and tops it all off with a conditioning mask.
