Britney Spears visits sick kids in Miami hospital

Monday 9 March 2009 @ 6:48 am

Just hours before taking the stage, pop singer Britney Spears made a surprise visit to a group of sick children at Miami Children’s Hospital.

The 27-year-old Spears posed for photos with the children on Saturday.

She’s also donating $100,000 to the Big Apple Circus Clown Care program, which brings clowns to young hospital patients.

Spears played at the American Airlines Arena in Miami as part of her “Circus” tour.

The tour to support her hit album of the same name kicked off last week before a nearly sold-out crowd in New Orleans.

Spears’ last toured in 2004.

Britney Spears Gets Assistant Back from Jonas Brothers

Monday 9 February 2009 @ 7:33 pm

Britney Spears is working with her old assistant again.

Felicia Culotta, a longtime friend of the Spears family who worked for the singer from 1998-2007, had a brief falling out in 2007 around the time Spears, 27, famously shaved her head.

But Culotta (who went on to work as an assistant for the Jonas Brothers) tells Usmagazine.com she couldn’t be happier about teaming up with Spears again.

“Britney has always held a special place in my heart, and over the course of the last year I have seen her work harder than she ever has in her entire life,” Culotta tells Us.

“Sadly, I am really going to miss the Jonas boys, but I felt I had to be a part of this exciting time in Britney’s career. I love Britney and missed her dearly.”

Britney Spears Allowed to Take Sons on Tour

Tuesday 3 February 2009 @ 6:51 am

Britney Spears will have her babies on board!

The pop star has finally gotten her way after rumors circulated that she threatened to cancel her upcoming tour if she was not allowed to bring her sons.

“Both Sean Preston and Jayden James will, in fact, be joining Britney throughout the duration of her tour,” her official website states.

Spears was planning to cancel her upcoming Circus tour if her ex-husband Kevin Federline’s lawyers continued to block an agreement that would allow her to take her sons on the road.

For weeks, Spears, Federline and Spears’ father Jamie had been privately planning to let the two boys travel with Spears on the tour. According to TMZ.com, the pop star would have homes in three places — New Jersey, New Orleans and Los Angeles — so that the children could stay nearby while Spears commuted back and forth from regional concert venues.

Additionally, the agreement allowed Kevin to receive at least $4,000 each week that Spears is on tour and that he would receive his own home in each of the three predetermined cities as well, reported TMZ Monday.

Because the agreement was made without Federline’s lawyers, they objected to the plan, TMZ reported, but now it seems the family has worked out an arrangement.

“Britney is so excited to kick off her tour,” says a posting on Spears’ official site. “She has been enjoying every moment of rehearsals and is looking forward to performing in front of a live audience again.”

The Circus tour — her first arena tour in five years — kicks off on March 3 in New Orleans. It runs until June.

Court blocks effort to depose Spears

Monday 2 February 2009 @ 8:02 pm

Britney Spears will not have to undergo questioning in a Florida civil case filed by her former manager at least until summer.

Clay Townsend, an attorney who represents Johnny Wright, said the pop singer won’t have to be deposed until August, following a closed hearing Monday. Townsend argued that Spears appears competent based on interviews and appearances.

A court commissioner blocked efforts last year to depose Spears in the case, which was filed in Orlando, Fla.

Townsend claims she is the only person who can answer questions about specific periods of her music career. Attorneys for Spears’ father, who has control over the singer’s personal and financial affairs, declined comment.

Britney Spears shows newfound confidence (and a finely toned tummy) as she rehearses in a revealing bikini top

Thursday 29 January 2009 @ 6:46 am

After a shaky start to her musical comeback last year, it finally looks like Britney Spears has got her self-confidence back.

Pictured rehearsing for her upcoming tour in a skimpy bikini top, it looks like the troubled singer has finally turned a corner.

As she writhes to the music in a Los Angeles rehearsal studio, Britney is cutting a very different figure to this time last year, when she was stretchered out of her home for psychiatric evaluation.

During her years out of the spotlight, Britney gained weight and stepped back from her career.

But after making her comeback last year and getting back in shape, Britney is slowly, but surely regaining confidence with her figure and performing abilities.

In exclusive pictures on her official website, Britney gives fans an insight into what they can expect on her upcoming The Circus: Starring Britney Spears tour.

Britney is set to begin her world tour in March, starting in her homestate of New Orleans.

The 44-date runs for four months and covers the U.S., Canada and London, with plans to expand to the rest of Europe.

Britney will perform six gigs in London’s O2 arena between 3-14 June.

So until then, Britney is working hard at the studio with her team of dancers and choreographers JaQuel Knight - who choreographed Beyonce Knowles’s Single Ladies - and Tony Testa.

During her whirlwind trip to Europe in November, which saw her perform live on TV shows including The X Factor, Britney was criticised for her obvious miming and lacklustre dancing.

As well as her lip-synching on the episode of The X Factor, it also emerged that the singer hadn’t spent any time with the contestants, who all sang live that night.

While been taken as a snub, it later emerged that Britney felt ‘too shy’ to offer the hopefuls advice.

The same night, Britney was expected to perform at the G.A.Y. nightclub in London, but angered fans when she backed out.

The club’s promoter, Jeremy Joseph, says: ‘I don’t know why she didn’t go on. She’s really shy, and obviously she didn’t feel confident enough. I tried to persuade her, but she said no.’

Last month, her mother Lynne Spears admitted Britney wasn’t the same confident superstar she was back in the early Noughties.

She said: ‘I think Britney’s happy in most ways - very happy with her kids and ecstatic about work. But there’s something missing in her life.

‘That gut belief she had in herself when she was so young - that’s what’s missing, and she’s got to get that back. She could set the world on fire in those days, and she knew exactly what she wanted.

‘But the hardships she’s been through have made her a little hesitant. She needs one big boost, one plug of energy and she’ll be there.’

After giving birth to two boys and her subsequent health troubles, Britney was out of shape for several years, but is now feeling good again after losing 20 pounds.

She told the January issue of Glamour magazine: ‘I have had to work hard at getting [my body] back to where it used to be.

‘I used to be obsessed with working out. But I can’t get motivated right now because I’m so focused on my music.’

Britney’s Facebook requires a Harvard grad

Wednesday 14 January 2009 @ 7:34 am

Spoiler alert: If you check in on Britney Spears’ Twitter feed, Facebook, MySpace page, and other electronic iterations, you might not really be communicating with Britney Spears. You might, however, be communicating with someone who is at the very least, very adept with a standardized test and number-two pencil.

Spears’ online manager posted a job listing for “Britney Spears 2.0 Media Manager” on a Harvard-only private job board, reports techcrunch.

Among the job requirements: “you are addicted to social networks such as MySpace and Facebook. … You are a popular culture addict and passionate about the intersection of Silicon Valley and Hollywood.”

Sounds to us like Britney’s people want a Harvard type to manage and monitor her social-media presence. Takes that high-priced degree to update one’s Facebook status.

Spears also made news this week for allegedly breaking up with her onetime safe place, OK! magazine. Apparently her father, Jamie Spears, was refusing to deal with the magazine under new publisher Kent Brownridge. Because of that, Brownridge wasn’t going to allow OK! to cover the sisters Spears.

An OK! rep reiterates that this just isn’t the case. “We would absolutely cover (Britney and Jamie-Lynn) (and pay Jamie for the privilege of doing so!) when something newsworthy presents itself,” says the spokesperson.

Kudos to OK! also for admitting that, sometimes, celebrity magazines pay for interviews as well as for photographs.
