An ugly fight has broken out on the Ugly Betty set.

On Thursday, reports surfaced that Lindsay Lohan was such a diva while filming her guest spot, America Ferrera lobbied to have her originally-scheduled six-episode-appearance cut to four.

But a source tells Usmagazine.com that it wasn’t Lohan who was acting up.

“America couldn’t handle Lindsay stealing her thunder,” the source tells Us.

The New York Post quotes a production source who calls Lohan’s appearance “a mess.

“Lindsay would show up every day with an entourage of people. She smoked 24/7, and after she left, they had to re-paint her dressing room it was such a mess,” the source says.

One of Lohan’s pals counters her dressing room was used by the cast of Fox’s thriller, Fringe.

“So maybe they messed it up,” the source says. “And an entourage? Yeah, she had her sober companion with her, as well as her manager, assistant and Samantha Ronson. Her publicist was there a couple of times. But so what?”

The New York Post also claims the 22-year-old would “obsessively cut pictures of herself out of the tabloids like she was creating some sort of scrapbook and refused to go on set until America was there - it was a power play.”

Lohan accidentally flashed the cast too, the paper reports. For an episode entitled “Granny Pants,” Lohan - who played Betty’s high school enemy - was supposed to “de-pants” Ferrera. But the scene calls for Ferrera to turn the tables – and pull down Lohan’s pants instead.

“Lindsay wasn’t wearing any underwear,” the Post’s source claims.

Counters a Lohan Pal, “Bulls–t! Lindsay wears underwear all the time now. She was wearing a G-string. And it was America’s fault.

“They were rehearsing the scene and America wasn’t supposed to pull Lindsay’s pants down - but she did,” the source adds. “Lindsay was so embarrassed, she started crying.”

Lohan’s pal says it was Ferrera who made filming unbearable for Lohan.

“America was mean to Lindsay,” the pal tells the Post. “Producers give her too much power. Lindsay didn’t do the last two episodes because America didn’t like her and got her kicked off.”

Reps for both actresses are downplaying any drama.

“America is grateful to have had her on the show and thinks everyone should tune in to see how great the episodes are,” Ferrera’s rep told the Post.

Adds Lohan’s rep: “Lindsay was scheduled for six episodes and is appearing in four, but had a lovely time.”

The two took the Acela train to Washington on Thursday and “had a quiet fight” the whole time, our spy says. Lohan spent most of the time complaining about her staff and told Ronson, “I do what’s good for you, not what’s best for both of us.” Lohan was “whining incessantly and Samantha was trying to deflect it. When Lindsay would get up, Samantha would sigh and put her sweatshirt hood back up.” At one point, it escalated to Lohan telling Ronson, “Don’t (bleeping) lie to me!”

Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson have hit a rocky patch in their relationship -just weeks after going public with their romance.

The Hollywood pair, who have been inseparable for months, are said to be drifting apart and bickering on a daily basis.

Insiders tell MailOnline DJ Ronson has made it clear to that she wants Lohan to step out of the limelight amid fears the actress may have lapsed back into her old partying ways.

The comparatively low-key Ronson is also said to feel ’smothered’ by all the attention Lohan pays her and is anxious to step away from the media spotlight.

A source said: ‘Sam needs her space away from Lindsay and really needs to take a long look at what the future of this relationship can be.

‘Sam’s friends have been saying for a while that Lindsay still likes men as well as women. And for Lindsay’s part, she’s still caught up in her partying ways.

‘Samantha doesn’t need that in her life, not now, not ever. If these two are going to be together for the long term, Lindsay is the one who’s going to have to change, calm down, and get real. Sam’s made that very clear to her.’

The source continued: ‘Clearly, they were spending a little too much time together, and Samantha was the one who said Lindsay was getting in the way, and even acting obsessive at times.

‘Samantha DJ’ed three big parties around the Emmy weekend in Los Angeles, and Lindsay was practically on top of her for every minute of those gigs. Lindsay was behaving in a very smothering way.

‘For a man or a woman, it can be hard when your girlfriend insists on going to work with you every day.

‘The problem here is that Samantha is intent on being taken seriously as a DJ, and the Lindsay sideshow was starting to overwhelm that.’

Two weeks ago Lohan and Ronson looked blissfully happy together as they holidayed in Mexico.

But the break wasn’t simply a lovers’ getaway.

The source said: ‘The vacation was all about fixing their relationship, because things had gotten dicey in late August and early September as Lindsay and Sam were just getting so much attention - so much that they needed to get out of the country for a while.

‘But things didn’t go well in Mexico. Despite the photos of them playing on the beach, Sam said things were very tense between them when they got back.

‘She’s known for being shy, but what she’s less known for is being a very serious and thoughtful person, and there have always been these second thoughts about how she comes across being in this high profile ‘celebrity romance’.

‘It’s never been something Sam’s been willing to embrace the way Lindsay does. Going to Mexico kind of confirmed a lot of that stuff for Sam.’

Channeling her rage against Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin into something constructive, Lindsay Lohan is planning to dress up as the former Miss Alaska runnerup for Halloween, pals of the newly political actress tell us.

The costume will include the glasses, the perky red suit and ample cleavage.

Even better, Lohan gal pal Sam Ronson is thinking about dressing as Sarah’s snow-machine-ridin’ hunky hubby, Todd, to complete the package.
Lohan recently railed against Palin on her MySpace blog, calling her a “narrow- minded, media-obsessed homophobe.”

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but in this case we think Lohan is aiming for the jugular.

We wonder if they’ll have lil’ sis Ali strap on a belly and come out as Bristol Palin.
