Teaser Footage For Diesel’s ‘Babylon AD’

Monday 28 May 2007 @ 7:01 am

So it looks like Vin Diesel is headed back to science fiction after his attempts at drama and family friendly comedy met with middling success. Teaser footage from Diesel’s new sci-fi flick Babylon AD has hit the net with behind-the-scenes video and a glance at some “money shots” — i.e., stuff blowing up. The footage was shown on the French TV station Channel Four when director Mathieu Kassovitz (whose last directorial attempt was the slightly limp supernatural thriller Gothika, so here’s hoping that he can do better with sci-fi than what he did with horror) and co-star Michelle Yeoh were in Cannes to promote the film. The script, written by Eric Besnard, centers on a mercenary for hire (Diesel) who is hired to escort a woman carrying the genetic material for a new messiah. Yeoh also stars as an ass-kicking nun who is along for the ride.

There are a few more behind the scene looks at the film on Vin Diesel Video, but it seems that we are going to get a full trailer sometime soon, since the film is already trying to drum up a little business. Diesel had been spotted filming in the Dominican Republic last year, and while the smart bet was that Diesel was finally getting to work on his long promised film about Hannibal, in retrospect, it was probably for Babylon. The last we heard out of the Hannibal project was the promise that it was about to made “very, very, soon” — albeit in a slightly different form, but that was almost a year ago, maybe Diesel’s definition of “soon” is a little different from the rest of us.

Trailer for Michael Moore’s ‘Sicko’ Released

Sunday 27 May 2007 @ 5:31 am

You know you’re an expert at causing controversy when you earn your very own investigation from the Treasury Department. So, we should all probably get comfortable with the arrival of Michael Moore’s new documentary Sicko, which just recently screened at Cannes, and will be stirring up who knows what kind of trouble as its release date gets closer. Moviefone is now hosting the trailer for the documentary, which gives us a look at what looks to be another well-meaning, if not-a-little-biased entry from the socially conscious filmmaker. It includes a quick look at the stunt that landed Moore in trouble with the Treasury Department in the first place.

The film, as you probably know, is Moore’s expose of the U.S. health care system. The response to it has been pretty positive so far, and inexplicably the doc even managed to get thumbs up from Fox News. But not everyone is feeling the love for the film — a group of disgruntled Canadian journalists recently confronted the filmmaker at a press conference claiming, “We Canucks were taking issue with the large liberties Sicko takes with the facts.” Mainly, their problem is that Moore patronized Canada by claiming their health-care system was problem-free, which, as I am sure my fellow countrymen know, is not the case. Sicko is set to hit theaters June 29th.

Unlock the ‘National Treasure 2′ Teaser

Friday 25 May 2007 @ 6:32 am

The whole treasure-huntin’ gang is back in National Treasure: Book of Secrets, and that means not only director Jon Turteltaub and producer Jerry Bruckheimer but stars Nicolas Cage, Jon Voight, Justin Bartha, Harvey Keitel and Diane Kruger too. (Plus they added Helen Mirren, Ed Harris and Bruce Greenwood to the mix, which certainly won’t hurt.) Also still on board are the husband & wife screenwriting team of “The Wibberleys” (oh how cute, that’s how they’re credited in the trailer). But since “The Wibberleys” filmography consists of titles like The Shaggy Dog, Bad Boys 2 and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, I’ll just focus on the fact that these guys also got a ’story by’ credit.

This time around the plot details with the search of infamous assassin John Wilkes Booth’s missing diary pages, and it’ll bring our secret-crackers from London to D.C. to Mount Rushmore in an effort to decipher some ancient historical silliness. Could be a fun enough flick come December. I was right there with the teaser trailer until Bartha opened his mouth and delivered a joke so lame it reminded me who wrote this movie. NT2 hits theaters on December 21, a week after I Am Legend and a week before Alien vs. Predator 2. (And you thought December was Oscar-bait season!)

EXCLUSIVE: ‘Macbeth’ Trailer and Poster

Thursday 24 May 2007 @ 10:02 am

Cinematical
just received a tasty poster and trailer for Geoffrey Wright’s (Romper Stomper) Macbeth, starring Sam Worthington as you know who. Yet another retelling of William Shakespeare’s classic play, this updated version of Macbeth looks to be a shoot-em-up thriller set in the seedy underground world of Melbourne, Australia. The poster definitely has this sort of Underworld vibe to it (although I don’t believe any vampires show up to wreak poetic havoc), and the trailer comes packed with plenty of steamy romance followed by all sorts of gun play. Pic was already nominated for eight awards for which it won two; an AFI for best costume design and best production design. Union Station Media will distribute, with Macbeth arriving in theaters on June 15.

Killer Kingsley Woos Leggy Leoni in ‘You Kill Me’ Trailer

Wednesday 23 May 2007 @ 12:02 pm

Just a few days ago we shared a rumor that filmmaker John Dahl might be in the running to direct the Thomas Jane-less Punisher 2 … but I’ll believe that when I see it. Until then (well, on June 22, anyway) we can focus on a movie that Dahl definitely DID direct. It’s a dark comedy called You Kill Me and you can check out the new trailer right here. (I’d say the trailer probably gives too much of the story away, but I guess that’s how they sell movies these days.)

The flick stars Ben Kingsley as an alcoholic assassin from Buffalo who’s forced to take a job at a San Francisco funeral home and somehow gets romantic with Tea Leoni. Also on board are Philip Baker Hall, Luke Wilson, Dennis Farina and Bill Pullman. Heck, forget the trailer. I’d go see this movie based only on the cast and the director. Oddly enough, You Kill Me was written by the team that penned both of the Narnia adaptations. Interesting. And for those who don’t understand why I hold John Dahl in such high regard, I recommend you check out Red Rock West, The Last Seduction or Joy Ride. (Yes, I said Joy Ride. It’s good.) Plus he did Rounders, and who doesn’t love that movie?

Signs of the Apocalypse: My Super Sweet 16: The Movie

Tuesday 22 May 2007 @ 4:32 pm

Oh no they didn’t! Like you, I watch TV. And, like you, I’ll occasionally switch over to MTV in hopes that they’ll finally play a music video (what’s that?), but get stuck watching a group of 15 year-old snobs curse the high heavens when daddy says he’s not getting them that BMW convertible after all. Amazingly, everything that’s wrong with this country is somehow included in this one show; evidently, we’re obsessed with watching rich people spend lots of money on absurd teen rituals (an ice statue for seven grand?) while other, less fortunate teenagers beg their high-spending peers to grant them permission to attend “the greatest party ever!” It’s sick. It’s twisted. And yet, so many people love to watch it — hence, the following:

Our sister site TV Squad reports MTV Studios will dish out a fictional, direct-to-DVD flick called Super Sweet 16: The Movie. Obviously based on their hit TV show, Super Sweet 16: The Movie will feature a bunch of your favorite unknown actors (with the exception of “teen sensations Aly and AJ“) as they feverishly type on their sidekicks and prepare for the sickest party of the year. My friends, I wish I was making this up; if only TV Squad didn’t present us with a horrific trailer, I’d still be holding out hope that someone would squash the project before my unborn child had time to text message his (or her) final American Idol vote. What next? A Jackass movie? Oh wait … Anyway, The Squad has the trailer, and I have a headache — look for this masterpiece to show up in your teen’s Netflix queue real soon.
